Moose Update For Week Of 03/23/08 - 03/29/08 |
 By fergo - Hockey's FutureThe Moose just came off a team-tying record of ten straight wins, including a record eight wins in a row on the road. Rookie Cory Schneider tied a record for most consecutive wins by a Moose goaltender with nine. His unbeaten (in regulation) streak was extended to ten games on Friday with the shootout loss, so he's one game away from tying the previous Moose mark of 11 games, set by former Canucks goaltender Johan Hedberg in 2000-01. Brad Moran had 18 points (4-14-18) during the ten-game win streak, with Jannik Hansen sitting in second with 12 points (6-6-12). The other two members of the first-line (Jason Jaffray and Mark Derlago) combined for 13 points (6-7-13) during the team's record-tying streak, meaning that the first line contributed 43 points (16-27-43) during that time span. The individual stats for the Moose during their win streak may be found here. While digging for those stats, I also researched some other things while I was at it. - 48 players have suited up in at least one game for the Moose this season, beating the previous team mark of 45 set last season.
- Nine players on the Moose have missed a total of 226 man-games due to being recalled by Vancouver. Those totals don't include Kevin Bieksa (72+ games) and Alexander Edler (71+ games), who only played one and two games with Manitoba respectively. Mason Raymond leads the charge with 53 games missed (and counting).
- 18 players on the Moose have missed a total of 244 man-games due to injury. Those totals don't include Moose ATO signee Chris Durand, who missed five games due to an injury suffered in his final game in the WHL. Jozef Balej leads the way with 56 games missed (and counting).
I'll close things out with a bit of trivia. Let's see who can get this. Michael Grabner scored his 21st goal of the season on Saturday. That goal ties the Manitoba Moose rookie record for goals in a season. Grabner now shares the record with a former Canucks draft pick who suited up for the Moose, but never for the AHL edition of the squad. Who is he?
