Three Questions with Josh Plummer
Canucks Fanz Columnist Farhan Devji recently had a chat with Josh Plummer, former Canucks.com writer and blogger at HockeyBuzz.com, and he shared his insight about Vancouver's suspect start to the 2007/2008 season.

1. Why do you think the Canucks have come out of the gate so poorly, is it time to hit the panic button?

JP: It's difficult to narrow it down to just one thing because I think it's a combination of factors. The Canucks are nearly a month into the season and there seems to be a different reason given every week. So far we've heard: Too many penalties, giving up too many shots, not scoring enough 5-on-5, not fast enough, bad in the faceoff circles and dumping the puck in too much. Tough to argue with any of these points.

Even though these are the same shortcomings Vancouver had last year, I don't think it's time to panic just yet. With the exception of a handful of elite teams and Minnesota, most clubs are still bunched together within a few points of each other. Comparing the Canucks poor start to the slow starts of other teams sounds kinda ass backwards, but it's one of the only positives they've got to go on right now.

2. How long do you think Dave Nonis should wait before he makes some sort of shake up to the roster, and if the team continues to underachieve, what do you think that shakeup should be?

JP: Some fans will argue Nonis has waited too long already. It's been mildly distressing to watch other teams in the conference re-tool, while the Canucks pin the hopes of generating more scoring on two offensive players like Markus Naslund and Brendan Morrison who are entering contract years. Can we really say Naslund is in a contract year? Is he playing for another contract, or is this his final contract? Only Markus knows. Not getting the chance to play with the Sedin Twins must be bothersome for Nazzy. He's probably wishing he shot right-handed.

With the salary cap, shaking up a roster and making moves isn't as easy as it used to be. I miss the days of blockbuster trades. For now, the Canucks seem content on juggling lines and shuttling players in and out of the lineup. It's like they're rolling the dice in the hopes of hitting a 7 or an 11. I'm confident Vigneault will hit the jackpot one of these games.

3. What are you up to these days? Where can we read your work?

JP: Starting next month I'll be covering the Canucks for The Hockey News on their new interactive website. I'm really looking forward to alienating a brand new segment of Toronto Maple Leafs and Calgary Flames fans.

Thanks so much Josh!
